Cribari Memorial Bridge (Saugatuck River Swing Bridge) Future

The Connecticut Department of Transportation is exploring future options for the historic Saugatuck River Swing Bridge (Cribari Memorial Bridge, Bridge No. 01349) carrying Route 136 over the Saugatuck River. CTDOT published a draft environmental assessment examining various project alternatives for rehabilitation or replacement. The 60-day public comment period closed April 17, 2026. In-person public hearing was held March 19, 2026, at Westport Town Hall. Individuals interested in obtaining ownership of the bridge for aesthetic, historic, recreation, or preservation uses were invited to submit letters of interest by April 17, 2026. CTDOT reserves the right to accept, reject, or withdraw the invitation at any time.
